Course Description:
This course introduces students to the field of Applied Linguistics as a field which makes abstract ideas and research
findings accessible and applicable to real world teaching contexts, thus mediating between theory and practice. Applied
Linguistics is concerned with the study of second and foreign language learning and teaching. Therefore, Applied
Linguistics will discuss the application of linguistic theories, descriptions and methods to the solution of language
learning/teaching within a wide range of human, cultural and social contexts.
Course Objectives:
- Help students understand the language learning process.
- Introduce various theories of 2nd language acquisition to students.
- Improve students’ language teaching techniques.
- Enable students to evaluate appropriate methods and approaches to language teaching.
- Introduce students to the basics of assessment.
