Course Description:
This course is designed to train students to translate selected technical and scientific texts between English and Arabic.
Particularly, the course will focus on the design, delivery and use of technical products, i.e. the translation and localization of
material aimed at end-users (instruction manuals, technical specifications, product data sheets, etc.) as well as the translation of
patents in the product design phase. Overall, this course will provide students with regular, guided practice in researching,
analysing and translating scientific and technical texts. It provides students with specialized terminology and vocabulary used in
these fields.
Course Objectives:
- Analyse technical and scientific texts for translation
- Differentiate type of texts, tools, language and strategies for specialized translation
- Use technical glossaries and specialized dictionaries
- Translate technical and scientific texts related to selected fields
- Assess a text in terms of target audience and register and choose the most appropriate translation strategy
